I made this cake for a friend's maternity leaving lunch at work and I'm pleased that it went down very well! Want to know how I did it? Here 'tis!

Chocolate cake (the bottom and legs!)

Ingredients
  • 2 large eggs
  • 3oz self raising flour
  • 3oz caster sugar
  • 3oz softened butter
  • 1/2tsp baking powder
  • 2oz cocoa powder
  • 3tb milk
Method
  1. Preheat the oven to 180C/gas mark 4
  2. Beat the butter and sugar together in a mixing bowl until combined
  3. Beat in the eggs and milk until smooth
  4. Sift in the flour, baking powder and cocoa powder and fold until smooth.
  5. Put the mixture into one 17cm sandwich tin and pop into the oven for 30-35mins, or is springy to the touch.
  6. Leave to cool
  7. Cut to sphere shape
  8. Cover with Nutella & white icing

Ingredients
Weigh your eggs (I used three eggs) and whatever the total weight comes to, use the same amount of the following ingredients:

  • Butter
  • Sugar
  • Self raising flour
  • 1tsp vanilla essence
Method
  1. Preheat the oven to 180C/gas mark 4
  2. Beat the butter and sugar together in a mixing bowl until combined
  3. Beat in the eggs and vanilla essence until smooth
  4. Sift in the flour and fold until smooth.
  5. Put the mixture into two 17cm sandwich tins and pop into the oven for 30-35mins, or is springy to the touch.
  6. Leave to cool
  7. Trim the top so it is flat & sandwich together with cream and jam
  8. Cover with jam & white icing
Icing:
  • 454g box golden marzipan - for legs and feet
  • 2x 454g box of pink icing - for blanket
  • 5x 454g box of white icing - for cake coverage and frills on underwear
