It's been a very beautiful week which has allowed me to spend lots of time in the garden. I've treated myself to another climbing rose and have shoveled and dug for what feels like years. We have very stony, clay soil... so of course I've broken this down as best I can and have mixed in my compost and Epsom salts for added magnesium. Although roses like moist soil, clay soil can become waterlogged which causes their roots to rot. Breaking up the clay, removing all the stones and mixing in organic matter (compost) and some small gravel will allow the water to drain, which means for happier roses!
This of course, is easier said than done. I feel as though my arms may fall off - and I'm supposed to be going to the gym later with Liam (help!) but I like to think that it will all be worth it once they start to flower!
