February's Alphabet: R is for Reading

We are all human and are made of the same stuff, yet only some can imagine a beautiful story, form the picture in their mind and transfer it into words on a page for everyone else to visit. You and I would read the same novel, yet the characters in our imagination could be completely different. We could watch a film based on a book and get to know the character played by an actor; yet when reading the book recreate the character altogether in our mind; their appearance and mannerisms. Imagination is like a fingerprint; no two are the same.

Reading is like taking a step out of 'now' and into a world where there isn't anything that can hurt you. While reading, you don't have to worry about the future as it's already set out for you in black and white. There are no dishes to wash, washing to hang up or bins to take out. Normal life can take a back seat while you cosy up in the corner sofa or wrap yourself up in bed with your ticket to freedom.
