Getting in the zone has been the biggest issue this month. There had been posts where I knew exactly what I was going to write, but others that I kept putting off until I was in a mad rush to publish and share before midnight. Liam's a talker and is very distracting so I sometimes have to disappear up to the office or bedroom. (I don't think he actually reads these so I won't get into trouble for writing that🙈).
This has got me thinking about how I get 'in the zone' to write when i'm really not feeling it. Once I start to type, my fingers can't keep up with my brain but it's getting my brain to engage to start off with that's the problem. This isn't just handy for my blog but for work as well. Writing SBARs and reports can be quite dull (I hope I don't get fired for saying that?!) so these are some steps I take to get me going.
Get everything out of your brain about the subject matter onto paper. Link the thoughts and ideas together and build from these until you have something concrete enough to crack on with.
Even if you know what you're talking about, it's always worth double checking the facts. Don't get cocky. We have it so easy now with the internet, just a quick Google search and you have everything you could possible need.
Get rid of the crap
Don't waste your time thinking about stuff that isn't relevant and doesn't matter.
Remove yourself from distractions
I refer to my previous comment about Liam (although he is good with the odd spelling request). If i'm curled up on the sofa with my dressing gown and blanket on (pretty much every evening), Heidi is guaranteed to kneed at me before settling down on my chest. Her love and cuddles trumps the blog (sorry).
And finally the most important part... (and probably the reason why I'm putting on a little winter weight)
Chocolate? Crap TV? Wine? Have it all!
